MASTERS IN PARK, RECREATION AND TOURISM MANAGEMENT

with a thesis focused on

Human--insect (and spider) interactions

Financial support exists for a Masters student who wishes to work on research and evaluation projects related to human interactions with insects (and spiders). Insects are the most common and accessible animal in home settings and parks and special places, yet they are largely ignored or viewed mostly in a negative light.

The qualified student will work to receive a Masters degree in Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management, with a concentration in Parks and Conservation Area Management, Community Recreation (potential to emphasize summer camp programming), or Tourism.

A ten-hour, nine month assistantship for two years is available accompanied by reduction in tuition. Additional employment may be available within the department particularly if the applicant can teach recreation/leisure activity skills.

An acceptable applicant:

·        Has taken the GRE and achieved acceptable scores.

·        Excellent logic, observation and writing skills.

·        Has a demonstrated an intrinsic interest in entomology or closely related fields (course work and or hobby)

·        Some experience working with children and adults in formal or nonformal educational/park/zoo/museum settings.

·        Intrinsic interest in how humans related to insects and how a better understanding can inform everything from home landscaping to educational and recreational programming in nonformal settings.
